From Missouri to Texas to Carolina; Spice Spice Baby
We were lucky enough to be in contact with our most recent charter and they did everything right!
Fall can be challenging with storms and coldfronts but also rewarding when it all lines up. Being on the same page can lead to a better understanding of what, where, and when.We no sooner set the lines out when the fish jumped on!
Two, three, four poles, and a bit of variety coming over the boards! Spanish have hung on with higher than normal water temps and there were some great tackle buster blues which made short work of some of my gear.
Family get togethers are great and the fun part is seeing how everyone jumps up, razzes their “elders” and then cheers them on.
Throw in an occasional surprise (he you have to release them right now) and it keeps us on our toes! I was glad “Dani” was aboard to break it up!
I think she ended up with most doubles, biggest mack…just saying! They still have to thank Nicholas as he was our go to information link with the fam.
Nice one Ginger Spice (I told you I would treat you like family…Irish are like that…sorry Nicholas)!
Thank you so much because I finally “looked” and it was greatly appreciated! “From this day forward….in the annual family get together I dub thee..Ginger Spice..purveyor of the South West Territory…” They came with the right attitude, catch something to eat and cook it up, have a great time…and it all fell together!
I have more charters coming up but know we have a lazy coldfront coming into the area so if you are here now, lets get going! Next week looks great so far and I am already on the books for that. Book directly at 252 424 0039 Cpt Will and we can take you on the spot weather permitting!
Glad to be on the bow overs
Get Up & Go..Got Up & Went
If you have watched the sunshine/rain forecast and tried to figure it out the last few days (since Saturday), we got up and went! We were glad to get back in the swing of things and we are hoping any current breeze ups oceanside will go away! We need that. With a coldfront comning in, every good day we can get we love it! I have a report coming up but know we are ready and best to call prior to booking with us to make sure we are on the same page!
Welcome Fall! Thar she blows!
Sound & Sea…A sighting at the pier..Exit…FLO
Kayaks have launched soundside.
Fall is here and as the marsh changes colors, we change rods.
Crabbers make the slow circles as they tend their pots occasionally lending dessert to a wayward bird.
I love this time of year because our fish tend to move. Never let it be said that my folks cannot pick me out of the masses. It is the OBX version of “Where’s Waldo” when your name gets called out. We always hope that our names are shouted in a GOOD way. We were looking at the ocean at the pier only to encounter some crews! Love our beach time and to have friends and fishermen who fish with us chat it up; that is how we like to roll! I had asked my crews this week to enjoy the beach as I did not have the conditions I wanted early on. They were loving it! I even saw my next generation with his beach toys!
WHAT is LEFT of Hurricane FLO is ACTUALLY an annoying system that is subtropical…looping back SW from Bermuda (think SE of here) and is going to lend to persistent swell along the beaches. If you are a surfer that is super. If you are a fishermen who makes use of shallow water shoals, cuts, etc oceanside it is…..annoying.Go…FLO…really.
We will see which end is up. We have cleaned up from the haul out, tied up at the marina again and finished the first part of the “list”. Anyone who has a boat knows, that list is never ending!
The Road Back & The Buffet
It is a well known drill here on finding a space, staying tied or pulling out of the water.
We pulled out to clean up and we were in good company for what we originally expected from Florence. As the storm continues to rain on the southern most part of the state, we continue to work and prepare to drop back in and head to the inlet.
I am fielding calls as visitors begin to filter back in to grab their vacations. Seas will continue to drop and the fishing we had PRIOR was great!
We had great folks, great fishing, and different types of trips which could yield different results. Albies, macks, some blues, some drum; we were pretty happy campers. What changes is that the fish get shook, they regroup, and we see what is now migrating in our area.
Sometimes immediate and sometimes not.Salinity, winds, current, all play into this. No doubt some are retying back at the marina to check the backwaters as well as the ocean as soon as they can get out there. I have touched base with our folks who may come in , given my opinion, and look forward to returning to put the lines back in shortly. I am presently polishing, painting, and waiting to drop back in post weekend. Hey, always a great time to check things out! I still have the rest of the Fall to fish!
As we hear it we will post it! Thanks to those rebooking for October! On track! If you are coming in today be patient, be kind, most businesses just got in order yesterday!
The Backside of Florence/Re-entry Info Link
I always direct folks straight to the county for the official policy. You can go to the Dare County Emergency Management site for today’s re-entry update!
It will explain procedures for Saturday and Sunday on who can get in , where, and when.
We have done well up on this end overall.Let us be considerate to the rest of our state and then some that are still experiencing Florence. Locals as well will be on the road with you and they want to get home as much as you want to keep your plans! We are ready for sun and very little mega surf but the ocean is rolling today! This picture was prior!
We are going to polish up this weekend into this next week and then move back to the marina to get back into place. Thank you so much for all the kind housing offers we had as we chose to be here with close neighbors as a group.
Evac, Exit, & Fade
By now if you have seen the information blasts, our area & others have gone into evacuation. We hope that all will experience safe travels, patience on the roads out be it 64 or 158. Park service closed the marina yesterday in preparation and we are glad to be out of the water whatever the case. During the next few days you could see this website “unavailable” , “server not found” etc. Go to our other social media should this begin to last and we will post it as soon as we know it. That has been our experience in the past and know that cell towers, servers, cables all hit a snag and it can fade. Our first calls will be to our family once service resumes should it be interrupted. This would include land lines so If you are trying to contact us I would give it until at least end of the weekend and let us see where we all are. I know that I will not be in the water any time prior to that. I want all clear, no extra storms.
I have friends on dredges, boats, that cannot leave where they are and I have already reached out to give them the thumbs up, stay safe, message once you are out of the bullseye. That is what you don’t see. Road crews, boat crews, first responders, DOT, Power Company employees, County Emergency Management are working. Have a heart. We absolutely hate losing this time and our visitors. Please don’t mistake our focus now on what is coming for anything other than the job ahead.
We hope to see this image on the flip side once it all dies down. We are already chafing for day to day. Calm waters, sunrise, and back to work! Thanks everyone and on the flip.
Viv & Will McPherson
I wish it was BYE FLORENCE but as you have seen on from what I have been saying, we left yesterday to prepare for the upcoming storm. I have released for this upcoming week ( Sept 10th week) all my own charters as well as anyone who had booked me through the marina. I released that prior to even leaving and called as well. This is for Sinbad. If you are booked with someone else then stick with your captain! This is for my people.
If you are here please pay attention to what is going on. For today, enjoy the beautiful weather that always comes prior to any breeze up. Honestly, we had no wind, popping fish prior, and just the swell that became the surf report! How aggravating that Wind finally was NOT an issue but two storm swells (one from a system above us and the approaching hurricane) was.
Customers who are coming in on the 15th onward: will be catching up with that today via email, phone, and other communication forms. We still have a second storm behind this one that we are making sure stays out to sea and/or low and not an Atlantic Issue.
The Last round of pics is coming and then we shall hunker and count down.
Thank you to those scheduled as you actually were on target.
Watching Florence-The Window, The Release
Going..going…If you were out this morning you hit the window! Fishing nearshore has been very busy with great seas, lots of fins, and a chance to extend your trip to different territories on most days. I have fished the macks, blues, albies, drum, small king. We are seeing folks comparing different fisheries and if there is something you wish to target, speak with us prior to scheduling the actual trip. Be glad to help and discuss.
The Piper is approaching and it may be one of two (the next system is right behind it looking to hit warmer water). FLORENCE is far out to sea but IF YOU ARE VACATIONING HERE FOR THE WEEK PLEASE PAY ATTENTION. This morning online showed two models and we have a long way to go and a possible strengthening to occur. Be responsible.
We have spoken with all who were booked with us for the upcoming week. Thank you to my regulars who know me well enough to know I personally HATE not fishing but nature rules and we are in the midst of that so we yield.
Beyond that enjoy the beach, pool, grill, your pals and be aware of changing ocean conditions. It is still Vacay and you are not in the cubicle or on the job! When we leave town we never care as we are just glad not to be in the daily!
Thank you to all the crews/families/friends who have been with us throughout the year and we still have the rest of September and October, November coming up! This is the wave that needs to pass by!
What’s In the Wind
It has been great for quite a while now! If you were discouraged from last September/August’s conveyor belt of storms; this Fall you have been rewarded.
Summer temps, great water this year (who knew it would stay so incredibly clear), and lots of trips have kept us busy.
My anglers have begun to sneak in and see the cottage discounts and the first sales along the beach. The Fish have begun their move and it will be interesting to see how long we keep our Indian Summer as we move towards October.
Blues gave way to more spanish macks, red drum, shot on cobia or albies. Every day is different and we show up for the go!
One day this, one day that; complain? No way. Love the fact we have had such a long stretch as we all know that sooner rather than later, we shall have to pay the piper on wind, NE fronts, and no fishing!
I think for now I will set the alarm, thank all the good folks who continue to come aboard, and keep the spinners handy!
We have many trips for many people but best way to do that is to call directly. You can reach us by boat phone at 252 423 0039 cell/ Cpt Will McPherson/Viv McPherson
I have more photos, more coming up!
Best Hook Ups? Directly With Us
The same time it takes you to type your info is the same time it takes to call and put it on the books directly with us! We are in fact open tomorrow Monday and have corrected this. As for Tues-Wed slots that will be 3/4 or 1/2. All Day is fine as well so that is up to you.Beyond that (Thurs Fri Sat) we have customers on the books so if it is late week you are interested in because you are on the beach; call soon.
Don’t have six people? NOT an issue. I have had tons of three and four persons aboard and fishing has been good. Macks, some albies, shot on small cobia as the push has already begun. Early? Yep but as long as we can go we don’t want to wait. Fish can move miles in a day! Thanks again to my regulars who show up and go! Safe travels back to work land tomorrow.
You can avoid the busy signal by calling
