Roll on to Roll in
It seems as if I am slower to post here than to click on our other social media. I think it is due to the fact that moments are instant in nature and intricate thoughts are moments strung like Christmas lights.
The winter season means many things to many people. Celebrations around the world carry beyond the New Year to usher in an artic breath of renewal.
It doesn’t matter how you celebrate or where you are; a moment of calm is something everyone can use!
Puppy drum and blow toads continue in the surf. Kings made their run in Hatteras and boats will return to the nets and grounds to grind away the winter here. Three days of pretty then three to four of breezes. Welcome to the Outer Banks! No matter where you are resting, climbing, meandering, or passing the time we wish you the best!
I will be posting here as we see the changes coming and that keeps you on the same string as us!
Feliz Natal, Feliz Navidad, Merry Christmas, Seasons Greetings

What’s Old is…New Managers Dockside
We have been on a bit of a hiatus of late from posting which is never ever productive. I wanted to wait until I had some clear information and put it on the deck for our customers to see.
New Management has taken the reigns of the marina currently known as Oregon Inlet Fishing Center. We look forward to working with those coming in and are excited to see what may be down the pike! Fishing is not static in nature and what better way to reflect that then with a swish of this aspect.
My customers know we will continue to execute the level of service we are personally known for as the approaching summer looms. You know us, you know our boat and gear, and we look forward to it! You can still book directly with us for the 2019 season.
As things progress, I will keep you posted but for now let us get ready for the nog, light the candles, and enjoy the weathervane switch. If you are in the snow and not boarding, skiing, or sledding then think of the balmy breezes to come. Remember the boats, take a walk on the sandy side, and let the thoughts warm you up!
Tight lines ! More to come!

It’s Fishing & Then Some
Of course it is always about the fishing! Even in the Fall it has been!
This is what we do but know that there is alot here for everyone once you depart the boat. Sunshine is on tap this week until almost next Saturday so this is the slice of heaven with no snow, no ice, no 38F.
Put your sneakers on, walk the beach on the shell hunt and don’t forget that EVERYONE needs some exercise!
I love sneaking out early to get a feel for what is moving when everyone else is sipping on coffee & tea. There is a stillness that is put on like a blanket only to be shrugged off as cars begin to move.
Sometimes you see the norm for nature (is there such a thing? I think not! Look at that Duck in Central Park).
Other times you can just stop, gawk, enjoy, and drive on. We have nothing open this week and stripers were on tap like last year on the backside. If you had a jig, a lead head you were casting and jigging! Plenty of my neighbors enjoying that these past few weeks.
So settle back, enjoy the week, cast a line in, pick a shell up, and we will have more post November to discuss!
Thanks to those who kept us untied and rang us up! If you are booking into next year please call our cell at 252 423 0039 Cpt Will McPherson
The Man of Steel
I could NOT believe I missed such a kind compliment. Somewhere out there is a person (from Steel Country) who took the time to stop by the dock, speak with Will, and pay me a compliment on some of the eye candy I place here. I remember the steel workers we used to take in the “old days.” Know that I so appreciated what you said. I actually had a class that I was taking ( I know shocker…the old dog so to speak) and my instructor would not have given me a pass had I not sat in the seat.
Thank you. Truly. I think it is easy for me to sit in my recliner and type away on the random thoughts. People think it must be a chore but it isn’t. For me, folks are sitting at my table across from me. Poor you! Such an ear bender! You should see the book that I have in my head. I need a ghost writer…or a lottery ticket…no wait; a WINNING lottery ticket.
Winter is still pushing around the edges but temperatures continue to be in that sweet spot leaving us along the beaches on good days for blues etc. Backside saw some trout action earlier but we are not available this weekend so good luck to those coming in! I still guard some memories of a warmer place and a nice view; wonder if my hiking boots can travel this year? Maybe a pack and my GoPro/Cannon..wishing. lol
Change has turned the weathervane. When the new information is given to us, I will be passing it along so we are all in the same loop. In the meantime if you are here, enjoy the beach, the temps, and the weekend get away!
Thank you to those who have kept us untied

One Fish Two Fish
A big Mathew Mcconaughey “alright alright alright.” That is really all one word lol. Stellar conditions these past two days gave way to the perfect Sunny Tuesday with good seas, limits of blues, and some spanish on tap! The Heckert crew have fished us in the past and returned again to put their toes in the sand and the lines in the Atlantic. Fall can be a challenge as you get a bit of time oceanside then have to run the rest of the time backside due to winds.
They went away with plenty to put in the smoker and on the table. Blues and the last of the spanish continue to migrate and specks are still in the surf (yesterday, reports from Nags Head). One circle after another put the lid open and the fish over the boards.
My hats off to Cpt Will…oh yeah…I had to laugh as I was obligated somewhere else yesterday (yep life happens and momma needs a new pair of shoes so I am multi-tasking) and he got a brief stint in my shoes. SOMEONE came home ready for Brunswick Stew but very happy our clients roll with it all. Folks want to have a good time, see nature, catch a few, and being able to do that in any capacity is a privilege. I have always told folks that he really doesn’t need me but it was nice to be missed! And yes yes…I know I am your ray of sunshine as I tell you not to backlash the power pro (she said rolling her eyes with humor) but hey, that is how we bond! Thank you Heckerts! So appreciate you always giving us the chance to go!
That was the window that nature left for us and today puts us right back to North winds moving the flags! If you are here that will put you backside on choppy days and oceanside when it lays down. Surfers are still sneaking out in great water temps for October so enjoy the beach, the eateries, and see you on the flip!

The shadows grow longer and the breezes become persistent. Gusts turn the Gale flags and winter begins to push a bit here and there.
Slick calm seas and some macks have given way to this weekend’s blow. Clear water with speckle trout bites in Kitty Hawk stopped temporarily as the ocean turned to chocolate milk. Definitely Fall!
A skiff here and there, bridge fishermen all in a row of late. We will be dodging oceanside when the opportunity presents and no doubt backside to the sound many will be looking for the next trout, Hatteras Drum on the shoals, or striped bass before the masses descend during the holiday season.
The conditions need to be decent there as well. If you are here enjoy the terrific temps and sunshine. We have more gusts on the way it seems. No excuse no to have the sand in your toes, a rod in the surf, or a kite in the air!
As we see it we will post it! Thank you for those blown out and the thought! Heads up!

Open the Window for 2 Days
We came off Michael with just a few ruffled feathers so we are grateful!
We have had some good catches and fish to clean prior to that. If they are on the carpet they are on my board! Seas never completely left us until post storm so it kept us shoalside on the roll.
Macks and blues hit the deck and kept the rods bending. My anglers came to enjoy the sunshine and the beach and whether they were with us or toes in sand, it was truly vacay.
That is the beauty of Fall. No lines, no crowds, no rush. Fish migrate down, fronts blow through, and we creep closer to December. We have about two days until the next chill down so take advantage if that is your wish!
We have Mon-Tues availability beyond that we close availability for a few days as you can see. Thank you to those who called, switched it up prior to Michael and got on board! I know it can be a hurry up but with what went on; whew what a hustle!
You can book directly with us and if there is a species you are interested in , bets to call prior to booking at all to make sure it is around! When it blows fish still continue migrating so there you go!

It’s All About Mike…
Aaaaargghhhh. Ok, I have photos coming up but before we get to far into anything know that the window is quickly closing for fishing! Hurricane Michael will hit FLORIDA panhandle but the remains of that rain and wind should reach here Thursday in terms of a blow out for the boats. The seas continue up with some chop and swell and it has been non stop since Leslie exited East of Bermuda.
By Friday a strong, traditional,Fall,” Thar she blows” coldfront is set to pick up what is left of the storm and quickly move it off. Great temps, sunshine, no rain to follow but know that it is going to be gusty and chances are as we race to finish fishing prior to Thursday, that will wrap us up until it calms down again!
For everyone changing right now and calling thank you! For those we will miss we are sorry that we even had to have this conversation AGAIN! Beyond that welcome to what really will be October!

The Rabbit’s Foot & Pikachu
I keep getting the lucky rabbits foot for crews fishing me!
Brandon had called us prior to getting on board and know that we were in a few territories to get it done but we did! The fun thing for us is always watching a dynamic between our guests. They remind us of the times we get with our own fam. Not enough by far.
We trolled it, drifted it, jigged it, live baited; I am pretty sure I used it all. The bonus is that my charters are right there with me grabbing the next pole, next set up, net hook up! Fish can bite on a whim, a set up, a condition, and sometimes it takes that. The key is enjoying each venue for what it is and remembering you could be stuck in paperwork, handwork, line..somewhere…anywhere. Enjoy what is there and roll!
I have to admit, I was a bit merciless on Brandon because he WAS so enthusiastic! He would crank in a double then just get Pikachu eyes for the fish that got cranked in next to him on someone else’s rod. I think he wanted my job….no really …
I liked how it rounded out and I appreciate you all giving us the call!
I want to give a shout out to “Philly Tony” ( I know a Tony, Tuna Tony, etc…hence ) today and know we really thank all of you for making my morning so incredibly effortless. Tunes were great (yes folks bring a portable speaker if you wish! Works great!) Having and easy few hours isn’t always the case. When I have to change tackle,it is great when it flows smoothly along.
Swell continues just a small bit and we need it to be gone already on the shoals.I am tired of repeating myself! Hurricane Leslie is on the OPPOSITE side of Bermuda set to move North then East due to High Pressure systems in play. YAY! Go already.
Weather and temps are great but give us a call directly right now so we can go over all the latest information! I want us all on the same page!
Thanks to all and see you on the flip!

Hunting & Hooking
Glad to be back on the hunt and glad to be hooking it! The Weekend Fish Rodeo rolled through and we snuck in behind the gauntlet to return to work! I have photos coming up. If you are here now lets go! It is gorgeous, sunny, and best way to have that information is to book directly with us. If there is something you are interested in then who better to get on the same page with then the crew? That way if we don’t have those conditions you are aware. You can wake up and go but know we are working with alot of different things so why not settle it the night before if possible. Do not assume anything especially if you are new to this area fishing wise!
Thanks to Brandon for calling directly, understanding it all, and putting his fam on board! Glad you got em! We appreciate it and safe travels to work today (boo).
You have another light coldfront going to drop…and yes Leslie is on the opposing side of Bermuda so we are watching it all. Annoying? Yes! Stopping us from fishing? Nope.
