His shirt rings true but it is definitely fishing and sometimes it works and sometimes it WORKS YOU OVER! lol. Catches vary all year long no matter what type of trips we run as fish continually migrate. That is why there is no set rule as we move and flex with the seasons. I was fortunate enough to have a pretty day, All day, a nice weekend, and a great bite this particular trip! Weather is whether and water temps have been a struggle this year. Truly a BIG factor.
Too cold or too dirty and the fish have been shutting their lips! No lie. Rumors of too much fresh water this spring ( catfish? alligator at Mann’s Harbor?)have made our blues inlet side almost a no show beyond the blitz we had early on. Few along the beaches. Just so we are all on the same page!
My crew lucked out (hey , you think I have a dial that ups the temps?) and got a great combination this trip. Spanish which showed early made a quick bite on the rods. There were signs that the water and bait had set up so with fish showing at lunch time, we began the casting. Lots of juvenile fish in the mix.
Last year legal size and this year not. Every once in a while you will see one hit the deck but we keep that tape handy and if it is a guess then back to the ocean they go for the next year!
You could pass a boat that didn’t see one and hook up, and vice versa.
LOTS of traffic always on that fish. By day’s end, it was a great outcome. Very next day you had to have an all day to get down past where we were the day before as the fish have been shoving up and down running a few miles in the process. THAT is how that fishery goes. Some days there, some not . We look no matter what hours we run as they have pushed through quite early this year!
I have more reports coming up but know each day can be different and crews are gritting their teeth hoping for stable water shortly as we have really covered the territory this year! Thank you to those who have fished me when it was raining, pretty, windy, warm & chilly! You have my card and you got the info!
