“That which shall not be named” is in the process of being named! I saw in print that the catwalk on the old bridge may retain Bonner and the new span Basnight but we shall see. In the meantime, residents, on lookers, two wheels, four legs, all showed up for the walk across the new bridge spanning Oregon Inlet. Yep, on the radio it will always be “the bridge” or the “Oregon Inlet Bridge” versus, new inlet, new bridge manns harbor, old manns harbor…you get the picture. It was wind chill in the 30′s, NE 22plus, and we all showed just to see the view you cannot get when you are driving 55mph.
The birds were below us and I put my ipod on and just cruised.Surprisingly easy considering the conditions. I will point out there was alot of help to make this happen and between Park, management, ems etc-they should also be handed a big atta boy. There was even a shuttle there to cross if that was the only way you could walk one way. Just no motorized vehicles.
The bridge is set to open up this month and the profiles appeared like a DNA helix; the old and the new side by side.It was hard not to notice that there were plenty of canines in tow. Whether sage,
or budied up; they kept their humans going!
I had a chance to see the current from above, the building of shoals, where we push through now, and where we can in the future.
I must admit, the old span sits in the water like a Barber’s comb dividing the rush of the ocean.I know each corner of the pilings, each cast I made, each piece I drifted as well as the sunrise that shone through those spans in the morning. That will always be the imprint. It is that version that will signify coming home or leaving after 36 years. Old dogs learn new tricks but they also don’t forget!
The bar is a gauntlet no matter where you viewed it and the marsh showed the hues reminiscent of winter! Summer is never soon enough and these types of days you hope not to see alot of come shorts time. A howl is a howl and we want that left to the wolves!
When I left, more folks coming in with a spring in their step. The returning vikings were ready to warm up, saddle up, and call it a walk. It says it all lol.
Fishing is around the corner!I will be updating shortly. Thank you to all who follow us and as we see it, we will post it!
